New series...

...of Lewis tomorrow night. Really looking forward to that, despite the stories being in the "split over two one-hour episodes" which we came to know and love (ahem) in series 7...

I was shocked to discover that we were getting them earlier than the UK this year. In the past, it's always been a spring release on ITV, and airing in the US the following autumn. I was buying the UK dvd sets and watching them uncut months in advance. This year, we just got the first new episode (Entry Wounds) last Sunday. However, it was edited down to one 90 minute (give or take) episode, and I'm sure it'll be edited. I'm pissed off to discover they've been trimming scenes from the new New Tricks episodes, and have read they've done the same to things like Foyle's War. The first year of Downton, they chopped it up and reordered things like crazy. Stupid PBS.

I think once they've taken out recaps and advert breaks, they're probably about 90 minutes long, so I doubt they've actually had any material edited out. Could be wrong, though.

I suspect they probably just trimmed a few minutes. It doesn't run the full 90 minutes. They trim out scenes from New Tricks even though there's no commercials on PBS, but somehow a 57 minute program with no commercials winds up being edited down to like 50-55. It's annoying as hell, esp when I've seen the uncut version and it's always good character stuff.

Some of the mysteries actually wind up being nonsensical because they've cut out important bits.
