I'm...

February 18th, 2015 (11:00 pm)

...just a little bit annoyed with myself.

Last year, between 16th May and 14th September, I managed not to post a single entry to Livejournal. That's nothing in four months. Since then, I've managed to write at least one entry every day, and I started to become...well, a bit superstitious about it, I guess - I didn't want to break my run again in case I ended up leaving LJ behind for months on end.

Yesterday, I got home from work, vegetated for a bit in the company of Lego Star Wars, then retired to bed to hibernate. I asked Sarah to wake me when she got home from work but that wasn't until 10:00pm, and I just decided, screw it, I'll stay in bed.

Which had two side effects - firstly, I didn't have any dinner (and woke up this morning feeling really hungry), and secondly, I didn't write any LJ entries yesterday.

Fortunately, the automatic Twitter -> LJ crosspost was still working, so there was and LJ entry on my journal yesterday, but...

Yeah. Annoyed.

Today, OTOH, has been...okay. Work's going well, and we got our payslips for last week, which include a 10% retention fee. Which...looks quite nice when written down on paper, or even in an email. Looking forward to actually receiving the money! I'm tentatively doing 9:00am - 6:00pm shifts, on the basis that last Friday I ended up leaving at 6:00pm (we'd been asked by our manager to stay on a little bit if we could so as to get as much work on the project done as we could before we moved on to the new one), and the drive was a breeze, nowhere near as snarly as it has been leaving at 5:00pm or 5:30pm - between the roundabout out of the Capability Green business park and actually getting onto the M1, it's invariably one long snaking line of cars inching forward at a rate that would make a snail say, "can't you hurry up?" However, this week, despite leaving late, the traffic's been about the same as before. Oh well.

On the bright sides, I'm enjoying the work, and also there's an hour more per day than there was in the previous job, so five hours more pay every week. Which is...nice.

Did a bit of tidying up in the kitchen this evening when I got home from work, so I feel a bit accomplished. There's a danger of getting back into the "one step forward, two steps back" pattern, and I don't want that to happen. And had a decent meal, too.

Redemption this weekend - looking forward to that. Sarah's coming up from work on the Friday after a half day, meeting me at Luton, and then we're driving up to be there mid-to-late afternoon. Sadly because of Sarah's work commitments we've got to leave on the Sunday evening - be a shame not to be there for the Monday morning wind-down. Also it's rather disappointing that there appear to be no weddings scheduled. If anybody would like to get married on the spur of the moment, I'm sure it would be appreciated. There are traditions to maintain, y'know...

The Big Finish listen on the drive to and from work continues to go well - recently listened to the Charlotte Pollard boxed set, and I've now moved onto The New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield. I think Charlotte Pollard has been my favourite so far - it seemed to be more dialogue heavy and less sound effects-intensive than others, which makes it easier (for me at least) to follow. I particularly loved The Fall of the House of Pollard (such a sad ending!). But I'm also loving the Bernice Summerfield set. Part way into the second story, I was delighted to recognise the dulcet tones of John "Cabin Pressure" Finnemore. I suspect that I'll be buying the second series of both...

Also, I ripped some Stargate SG-1 episodes from DVD into the iPad this morning, as watching that is something I'd like to get back into. I stalled part way through series 4 a little while back. Mind you I was rather surprised when ripping the DVD to realise that I'd seen episodes 5 - 8 of the season and forgotten about them...whoops.

Got a bit of Midsomer Murders on in the background now (the first episode of the current series, despite the fact that the last episode was actually broadcast tonight...), but I need to head to bed soon...

Jack Sparrow - sad face

How late in the evening are you guys leaving on Sunday? Will you be around for birthday silliness at 8pm?

Sadly, I wouldn't have thought so. :-(

I have much love for Stargate SG-1. Should you develop a liking for Harry Maybourne, look up my novel 'The Price to Pay' on AO3.
