Good game, good game..?

April 7th, 2014 (06:05 pm)

I'm just going to make, in light of a TV programme that returned for its fourth season last night, to make a confession.

I've never seen Game of Thrones (herein: GoT).

I've not read the books, either.

I'm not really likely to, to be honest. I realised a little while back that, with the exception of Tolkein and Pratchett, I far prefer science fiction to fantasy, and from what I've heard of GoT (two words: Red Wedding) I suspect it's quite likely to squick me out if I ever did watch it, given my low tolerance for gore and bloodshed.

Don't get me wrong - I'm aware of it as a cultural phenomenon, and I even have a t-shirt with a picture of Iron Man on the Iron Throne, and am well aware of the relevance. And I don't dislike GoT - that would kind of require actually having read and/or seen it.

But yeah. Given that loads of people seem to be posting about GoT on LJ and Facebook - and I know that quite a few of my friends really like it - I just thought I'd mention it. If you engage me in conversation about it and I don't have anything to say, I'm not being funny, I just don't have an opinion.

Hope that clears that up.

Likewise. I have the first book ... somewhere, and I keep thinking "I should maybe read that some time", but I'm probably not going to.

Bored Now

I'll come and sit in your corner with you. I have never felt the urge to read or watch it, either - even though I do read more fantasy than you do.

Red Wedding was a massive disappointment.

We watch GoT for the porn, I'll admit. Some of the scenes make me laugh out loud but now and again it's sexy. It's also brutal and some bits I haven't been able to watch.

Still, it's better than The Following. But it's not great.

amy rory stare ahead

I've never seen it or read the books either. I'm a bit curious about the books, but kind of feel daunted by the number of characters involved.

I'm hesitant about watching the show because I'm not really in the mood to watch another show where more than half the cast drops like flies, plus I'm squeamish about the violence.

But I probably will end up seeing it because I am curious about what all the fuss is about, plus my fiance really wants to see it.
