Coupling - Stuck in the Giggle Loop

Writer's Block: Tobacco road

Would you want your city to outlaw smoking on public streets? Why or why not?

Hmm.

I don't actually know.

I mean, I absolutely hate smoking, can't stand the smell, hate the fact that by the time I get to work most of the free parking spots mean that the designate smoking area is between me and the front door. And there's also the fact that cigrette smoke plays havoc with Sarah's asthma. But on the other hand, I sort of believe that people should have freedom of choice. Admittedly, it's basically freedom to choose to kill yourself (and can the labelling on cigarette packs be any clearer?), but...I don't know. What I do very definitely think is that people who smoke should be more considerate - I mean, I hate those moments where I'm sitting down somewhere, say waiting for a bus, and someone sits down beside me and lights up a fag without even asking - I mean, would it hurt them to ask, "would you mind?"??? And I'm glad that smoking in pubs and restaurants has been banned...

I guess really, thinking about it, banning smoking in public places would generally be a good thing - anyone who *really* wants to smoke can do so at home.

So yeah, that's my answer. Yes.

Took me a while to convince myself of that, though..!

Doctor Who - Time Crash Pair O' Docs

When this baby hits 88 miles per hour...

There's a flux capacitor app for the iPhone (possibly for other platforms too). It's all lovely and official from Universal and has genuine BTTF sound effects and a speedo that goes up to 88mph and programmable time circuits and a wonderful little disclaimer telling us that it doesn't *actually* enable the act of time travel and nor can the speedometer be used to guage real speed in vehicles (cue Sarah explaining the insurance industry's equivalent of the Darwin Awards and me facepalming *and* headdesking at once), and...basically, *squee*!!!

What else? Oh yes, Doctor Who tonight was fun, wasn't it? I'd now like another Neil Gaiman episode. Directed byEdgar Wright would be nice. :o)

(no subject)

Sarah is listening to something discussing the Timurid Empire (real, based in Persia several hundred years back, consisted of humans). I, um, may have deliberately misheard it as the Tyranid Empire (not real, based in Warhammer 40,000, consists of scaly things with claws), for comic effect. *ahem*
