It was one of those days...

...when you get out of bed, and gotta go straight back to bed from the effort.

Okay, not that bad, but...woke up when my alarm went off at 6:00am, played Lego Star Wars for an hour, went back to bed, woke up again at about 9:30am. Sarah was projecting at church this morning, and I for a few minutes thought about not going, but eventually decided that I would go. I'm glad I did. Bob, one of our congregation, was taking the service, which was all about Jesus's use of parables. Interesting stuff. We were asked - given that most of the church Bibles are in storage - if we could take our own with us. I took half a dozen of mine just in case anyone needed them, but they went unused. However, I dug my "new" one (which I bought in Blackpool whilst I was on holiday there back in June, and which has lain unused in the back of the car ever since) out, and gave it its first airing. Mind you, I probably won't be using it again for a while until I've actually stuck the tabs in it.

Andrew, who was on CD duty for this service, played a couple of songs which I recognised and brought back some pleasant old memories. This Chris Tomlin one:

And this one:

Which...that's not the version I know (kicking around on my old iPod I've got one by the Stoneleigh/CCK folks), but anyway, good song. Brings back memories.

Did a bit of grocery shopping after church, and have just had lunch. Now just doing a bit of pottering around the house. Might import the contents of a video tape or two into the computer later. Also, I need to do that test run out to Luton at some point. Oh yeah, many folks at church congratulated me on the whole getting a new job thing. I'm looking forward to it. Even if it does only last the projected 2½ - 3 weeks, it'll at least get me out of the house and stop me going stir crazy. Which has to be a good thing...

Happy.

Oh yeah...

...why is there no easy way on a Mac keyboard of getting a "½" symbol? Or a hash? Or is there an easy way of doing it and I just don't know about it? I mean, I know about opening up the "special characters" thing, but even that isn't terribly good (I was looking for the "½" the other day, couldn't find it, and eventually settled on copy & pasting it from a google search...) It's blasted frustating. I've got a little .txt document with useful symbols that I copy & paste from occasionally, but I've got to be honest, it strikes me as weird. Mind you, back in my PC days I used to rely on the old "Alt + 0232" trick for ½. If Macs can do that, I've never found a way of doing it. And the absence of a hash symbol pretty obviously makes Twitter a bit of a weird experience... All help and advice gratefully received...

Okay...

Just been out for a test drive out to my new place of employ. It's out on an industrial estate just off junction 10 of the M1 - I'd been to the same estate for an interview back in March, so there was a bit of familiarity about it (also, the seem roadworks seem to be in place as were there back in March..!). Not too problematic a drive, and it was only about a 20 minute journey each way. Obviously it'll be rather longer in the rush hour - I'll be (hopefully) allowing an hour for the journey (I need to be there by 9:30am tomorrow, 9:00am on subsequent days). I'll probably use the satnav for the first couple of drives out there, just to be on the safe side. But I'll "force" it to take me up the Redbourn Road and get onto the M1 at junction 9 - there's no way I fancy going down Breakspear Way to get onto it at Junction 8, which is just plain hellish first thing in the morning...

Today's been generally quite a good day. Did a fair bit of tidying and sorting, including getting a chunk done in Sarah's room - loads of paper for shredding, stuff for the recycling pile, clothes to be washed...also imported the whole of The Imaginatively-Titled Punt & Dennis Show into the computer. Watching an episode now for the first time in years. Very pleasantly amusing. :-)

This trailer for an episode of Chandler & Co was on the tape before one of the episodes. Features a certain Scottish actor more recently known for swearing a lot and now flying a blue box through time and space...
