Misc.

So, last night I went quizzing with Tim for the first time in ages. We didn't win, but came a not too bad fifth, teaming up with John & Keith, our regular partners in crime there.

The first round was "Quickfire 80s". I was in my element - loads of great old synthpop/new wave stuff in there. The first song was Self Control by Laura Branigan, which as I'd been thinking of listening to her stuff anyway earlier in the day, I've now got iPpy the iPod playing all her albums (well, all of them that I've got, anyway).

Earlier in the day I'd been listening to all the Huey Lewis & the News stuff that I've got. That was good fun.

On Wednesday I finished getting up to date with the latest series of Supernatural. Since Sunday, I've been watching episode 6, Yellow Fever (loved the opening pre-credits teaser, good episode all round I thought); 7, It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester (not as good...it's rather telling that I have to think hard to remember what happened); Wishful Thinking (cracking episode - I love it when SPN does quirky, and this was definitely that!); I Know What You Did Last Summer/Heaven and Hell (absolutely brilliant, the best of the season so far IMO); and Family Remains (somewhat disappointing, partly for the lack of any actual supernatural element, but also 'cos I'm sure I'd read somewhere that it was revealed that one of the characters turned out to be Sam & Dean's hitherto unseen sister. Maybe I'd misinterpreted someone's comments somewhere (regarding the two big bads being brother & sister), but I was absolutely utterly convinced I'd read it somewhere. Maybe it's something that'll happen later in the season.

Anyhew, last night started watching The Prestige, which I've been meaning to get round to for ages. Didn't realise Michael Caine was in it. Enjoying it so far, but had to leave off to go to the quiz.

And my replacement provisional driving licence has arrived (the other one a.) was an old-style paper licence, b.) had an old address on it (which Sarah pointed out made it illegal. *ahem whoops*) and c.) had gone missing (although in my sorting out my old paperwork it turned up). Anyway, I now feel vaguely official. My instructor is now talking enthusiastically in terms of sorting out a theory test, which I'm absolutely scared stupid about.

Mum gave me a lift into work today, bless her, and she had my nephew Jakob with her. It was great to see him. He's, what, about three months off his third birthday, and it's possible to actually have little conversations with him. Bless. He's wonderful.
